Next Show: March 14 - Josh Grigsby & County Line
DONK’S TO KICK OFF ITS 40TH YEAR ON MAR 14THTH WITH ALL-STAR OPRY LINEUP , FEATURING JOSH GRIGSBY AND COUNTY LINE
After a two-week delay in opening, because of weather and safety issues, Donk’s Theater, Virginia’s Li’l Ole Opry, will open Saturday, March 14th with a new-found treasure. Donk’s patrons will recall that Josh Grigbsy, who was born and raised in King George County, Virginia, has made several cameo appearances since he was first introduced in the 2012 Talent Search. In January 2014, Josh and his wife, Crystal, formed the band “County Line” and began to pursue his love of Country and Blue Grass music, influenced by such artists and Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs and Vince Gill. His first musical influence was his father and Josh started playing and singing in church at an early age. Josh and the band are now working on their first CD, which will include the title song, “Changes in the Tide”, a tribute to his father who was a waterman on the Rappahannock River for many years.
Josh and his wife, Crystal, who provides harmony vocals in the group, are joined by Bob Green of King George County, on dobro; Chris Westcott of Spotsylvania County, Virginia, on lead guitar and vocals; Judge Parker of Richmond, Virginia, on banjo and vocals; and Robert Kidd, of Goochland, Virginia, on bass. Crystal, who also comes from a musical family, began singing in churches with her mom and aunts early in her life. Each member of “County Line’ is a professional who has worked with some of the best artists in the arena of bluegrass and country music. Josh and the group have performed all over the state of Virginia, winning the title of 2014 East Coast Bluegrass Champions in Gloucester in September 2014. He and the group were thrilled to open in Hughesville, Maryland for Alan Mills and “Lost and Found.” This will be the first appearance of “County Line” at Donk’s.
Donk’s Theater, begins it’s 40th year of operation, providing a country music venue to people of all ages and from all over the world. It is not unusual to host patrons from England, Australia, Germany, and from California to Maine, Florida to North Dakota on any given Saturday night. Donk’s opened its doors at “The Counrty Jamboree” on June 14th, 1975. Special reunion shows with many of the favorite performers down through the years are scheduled during June of this year.
This Saturday Donk’s will introduce you to the cast of 2015 and the newest member of Shades of Country house band. Cast members will perform some of the old country songs and some newer favorites.
The show will also feature Shades of Country and emcee, Uncle Jimmy Wickham..
