Jerilyn & I enjoyed the show and on our way home the four in our group (Don/Louise/Jerilyn & I) discovered that each of us voted for different people. What a joyful experience. The new drummer was spot on. I would think it would be difficult for him to play country music since he is probably into Rock/Rap. We noticed him looking at his dad for direction. It's good to see father & son onstage together. I'm guessing Tony is ready to move on to other things. I voted for contestant #1 because I thought he would be a good replacement for PJ. As Lynda explores the talent she has available I know she will put together an exciting 1st half show. I hope Steve feels better soon......Tommy Hale

Just a quick email to Thank You for our opportunity to enjoy the show last night at Donk's. While the Isaac's were outstanding, the first portion of the show was just as outstanding. I commend you and your assistants for providing such a professional service that is so desperately needed in our rural communities.
Thanks again for making two tickets available on such short notice!

Be Well! Mike

I enjoyed the first half of the show last night. Kasey & Ray are talented entertainers. I watched them grow up on the Donks stage but I'm a little too old for their act. As a younger man, loud was okay, but now that's changed for me. I probably will not attend their show next year if they have one. I think a younger person would give their performance a thumbs up. I expect to get my hearing back by the end of the week :).

Great show Saturday. Everyone was great. I especially liked Deanna's George Jones song and her daughter is just awesome. Wow! She is a power house like her Mom. Richard and Linda were also exceptional at the end. Great Jerry Reed song sung by Steve. Betsy you're always fun to watch. Really everyone did a great job. I always try to see the oldies show . Best regards, Fran

Jerilyn & really enjoyed Farren's show last night. We went, expecting to see a very young star struggling to complete an entire show, and left feeling we had witnessed one of the best shows of the year. We are looking forward to following her career and attending her shows. Donks continues to be our favorite place to spend our entertainment money.
As a side note; we also enjoy watching & listening to Kyle Abbott on the drums. He seems to get better with each show.

Wow! What a great show last night(Reunion Show). It was so much fun seeing stars from the past on Donks stage again and that seemed to motivate the regulars to do even better. I believe the band creates the atmosphere that allows the audience to relax, enjoy the music and the singing, and go home feeling the price of admission was money well spent.
Some things get better with age. I think that applies to Donks!

Great show Sat night, one of the best this year. Loved all the entertainers, they were wonderful. We try not to miss a show, it is a good place to go for entertainment. Looking forward to Steve's Show, we know it will be good.

I've been attending Donks Shows regularly since moving to Mathews six years ago....there have been lots of very good shows, but last night (June 22, 2013) was one of the best ever. Many spectacular performances in the first half and Steve was phenominal. He is a great musician and entertainer.

Steve's show last night was excellent! His song selections fit his style of singing and he always manages to get the audience to smile as he weaves funny comments into his act. It's too bad he never made it to Nashville, or Memphis, as a young man. He would've had a great career.

Another wonderful show at Donk's last night. Steve did a great job and enjoyed every minute.

Loved Sat. night's reunion show; it was somewhat of a reunion for me, too, since I hadn't been able to visit for about four years. It was great to see everyone again! There were songs for all ages. The talent was, as I fondly remember...just amazing! Michele "blew it out of the water" with her song and "The Rockin' Grannies" were just that...rockin'! Can't wait for my next visit!

(Hampton Roads Magazine - Give away winner) Thanks again for the tickets to Donk's in Hudgins last night. Just so you know, it is some of the best, home-grown, down-home, talent I've seen in a long time. Its dubbed "Virginia's Lil' Ole' Opry" which smacks of
country, obviously. I'm not a fan - shall I say, I WASN'T a fan - of country, but I was very impressed and a lot of the music is 'cross-over. It's not the twangy country that I remember from growing up in Winchester in the 50's and 60's.

I've lived in Gloucester Point (across York River from Yorktown) for 15 years and had never gone, so thanks again, it was great!

I just gotta tell ya...when I pulled up to the theater with my sister I was wondering "What did I get myself into?". LOL!!! We had so much fun at this theater. The entertainment was fantastic!!! It was so good....we are going back on the 22nd. LOL!! What a gem!! Hidden all this time, kept a secret....but not anymore...at least not with me...
Thanks again,

I was at the Mullins Sisters show and enjoyed it very much. That is such a talented family and the ease of their interaction on stage is very relaxing and enjoyable. My wife and I always look forward to their show each year. I also enjoy watching and listening to Todd play the guitar. I can always tell when he's going to do some serious picking (he goes into his favorite stance with his feet wide apart):)....He certainly has a lot of talent.

The talent show last night was excellent. There were five performers and all of them were talented. I would love to see Lynda give them the 2nd half of a show and see what they could do.
The regulars on the first half were great but I do miss the diversity of talent we have enjoyed for so many years. It seems like during the last few months a lot of our talent has quit performing. As last night's show indicated, there is a lot of talent available, Lynda just has to find it......Tommy
Posted by Tommy Hale on
I enjoyed Traci's show last night. She always tries real hard to give a good performance and last night she was exceptional. It appears about half the seats were filled so a lot of people missed a good show.......Tommy

Wonderful show I never miss Lynda's show never so good so good.So much talent at Donks its unreal what a treat to go there & hear these great singers, can't wait until the next show!!!Don J

The Mullin Sisters performance is one of our favorite of the year! They are not only beautiful and terrific entertainers, but their vocal harmonies are that of Angels and the musical talent they possess will take your breath away! This review wouldn't be complete if we didn't also state how incredibly talented their children and lead-guitar husband were as well! We also ADORED JEFF LONG's solo and appreciate so much that he sang of God and did not let the possibility of "offending someone" hold him back!! His perfomance was absolutely beautiful and brought tears to my eyes and a smile to my heart. Again, I cannot state enough times how blessed we feel to be living in a beautiful small town that is filled with huge musical talent! Donk's theater is a hidden jewel that glitters for all of us who have the fortunate pleasure of spending a perfect Saturday evening listening to the BEST music around!

The Hee Haw show was excellent! It was very nice to have so many artist perform and participate in corn patch comedy. Phil Johnson is always fun to watch and Richard brings a lot of enthusiasm to his performance. Walt & Tracy were spot on and Jim & Joel always bring their "A" game. Michelle seemed to enjoy being part of the cast and always sings quite well. Of course we always enjoy Steve & Betsy and Lynda should have stayed in Nashville because she is that good. Ralph and his band were excellent and always entertain. The Band always does well and all their members performed flawlessly. I hope I didn't leave anyone out, it was such a good show and everyone in should feel proud of their performance.

Great show Sat night wow such wonderful young talent good to see the regulars great 1st half also!!Hard to believe only two more shows left in this year & both of them will also be great so much fun bring a friend or better yet bring your family.Don

The Talent Show Finale was just great! It was such a nice surprise to see last year's winner perform and then the six talent contestants were all winners. It would have been a difficult choice to select the best of the group. The three female performers were less then 13 years of age and I sat there wondering how you obtain so much talent at such an early age. With only two shows left I'm dreading the loss of our bi-weekly entertainment at Donks during the winter months. Based on Lynda's remarks during the show I'm confident we will see a lot of new, welcomed, talent next year. Hurry up 2014! .....Tommy

My family thoroughly enjoyed the "Hee Haw"show on October 26'th. It was our first visit to Donk's. What a fun night! The show was awesome. There is so much talent there! Everyone there was so nice to us. My kids watch Hee Haw with us every Sunday evening on RFD. They do their own skitsZSPU6D for us and are pretty good at singing "Pft you were gone..." My kids were invited to sing their version of the song "off the cuff" on stage that night. They enjoyed it so much. Thanks to everyone at Donk's for making us feel so welcome! Keep up the great work!

Ralph Motley and Hee Haw Show!!! It was an incredible night of entertainment....that is an understatement. My sister and I had a ball. Thank you, again for a great evening...and there wasn't even alcohol involved!!! You guys ROCK........in a country way! :)

Donna Ulisse's show was so enjoyable. Not only is she a wonderful singer she's a great songwriter. Her band is loaded with talented musicians and they all work hard at helping Donna entertain her audience. I certainly would love to have a DVD of her performance last night to play at Christmas time. She told the story of Christ's birth in such a unique way. I expected the house to be packed for her show, but it was still an impressive, and expressive, audience. I hope Lynda brings her back next year.

Donna,s show was wonderful last night. I felt as though I was hearing the Christmas story for the first time...She is one talented song writer.....

This was our second time at Donks.Your shows just get better and better!!!!This time we had a group of seven and a good time was had by all.Preston was with our group and he will definitely be back for the talent show.We can't wait for that but I'm sure our group will be back before then for your great shows. There is so much talent on that stage. We will definitely be back!!!

Farren's show last night was spectacular. How can someone so young have so much talent? I enjoy that she brings others in to be part of it and that adds to the diversity of talent on the stage. I know Lynda was impressed when Farren said that she was her idol and role model. I missed Jeff Long and his contribution to the music at Donks. He rarely misses, so I'm confident he will be back in two weeks. Randy Hogan continues to be a favorite of mine. What would "Shades" be without that fine musician......Tommy

My wife and I definitely enjoyed the Patriotic Show, and it was so nice to have PJ Owens back again. We missed some of our favorite performers: Steve, Richard, Ralph, Traci, Michelle and Jim & Joell. We also missed Phil's solo performance. But, even with all those fine performers missing the show was worth the long trip from Poquoson. Lynda continues to do a great job of providing excellent talent by constantly searching for new singers and giving them encouragement and opportunity. Donks is a tremendous bargain for our entertainment dollar.....Tommy & Jerilyn

I WAS JUST BROWSING THE INTERNET AND CAME ACROSS THE SONG HOWS THE WORLD TREATING YOU SUNG BY JEFF LONG AND MARIE. I PLAY IT OVER AND OVER. THEY SING THAT SONG SO WELL TOGETHER. ANY INFO ON JEFF LONG AS TO WHERE HE PERFORMS? HE HAS A GREAT TALENT. HIS VOICE AND MANNERISM IS SO SOOTHING. THANKS FOR ANY INFO YOU COULD GIVE ME AS TO WHERE AND WHEN HE PERFORMS.

The Mullins Sisters & Family Show was great last night. Not only was the singing spectacular, the musicians were spot on. I always look forward to this show and as the place was almost full last night, I'm not the only one. Lynda mentioned that there may be two shows next year. What a treat that would be!
I also think the first half of the show was the best of 2014. What a wonderful group of talented people Lynda has selected. If she continues her quest to acquire new and talented people, Donks will become a premier destination for entertainment.

Tracy Hill was OUTSTANDING!!!!! My friend and I brought along a couple of newcomers and they were amazed at the overall talent, but Tracy rocked the house! We could have sat there three more hours and listened to Tracy along with the Shades of Country. And I'm sure Patsy Cline was singing along from up above. Can't wait until Tracy's next show!

We went to Donk's on Sat. night. First time. What an incredible array of talent from that lil stage. Lynda Smith totally out of this world w/talent. She brought tears to our eyes w/the daddy song then just rocked us out of our seats w/Journey! We loved the whole evening. Thank you. Next time we travel down the York River to visit our relatives, we will make sure to visit Donk's again...
Thank you....

Hi enjoyed the talent show just confused on how or when to find out who th 3 winners are ?
Posted by Tommy J Hale on
The talent show last night was very good. I am always amazed at how well the band plays for the performers without any rehearsal. Randy Hogan and his spankin' new guitar were flawless. I also enjoyed watching Phil perform with his grandson. It was fun watching a 20 something kid perform with with his grandpa onstage. As my wife & I drive home to Poquoson I usually try to pick the best performance for each half and my pick for last night: Betsey- 1st half & the fellow that sang Johnny Cash -2nd half. Ahhh, with so much talent on one stage how easy it is to pick favorites.
Posted by Tommy Hale on
William Earl Sadler's show last night was, probably, my favorite show of the year. It's difficult to pick because there are so many good shows. I enjoyed his selection of songs and his voice was flawless. I especially enjoyed the two songs he wrote. As usual, the Shades backed him up wonderfully. I think it would be great to experiment with letting him have both halves of the show and giving the other singers a break,or, have him include them in his show.
Lynda is doing a great job with bringing in new talent and I always enjoy the shows.
