(October 2, 2011, After Steve Motley Show)

Every time I sit and think about the incredible talent we have living right here in Mathews County, it truly is unbelievable - what an amazing blessing!  I look forward to coming to Donk's more than any other activity in my life because it's just so special I never want to miss one performance!  Wow! Man in Black - so awe-inspiring and talented!  Only wish he'd give harmonica lessons on the side!  Have never heard such a harp player in my life - not to mention his singing is wonderful to listen to - and he's a treat to look at too!  Oops! Don't tell my husband I said that!  :)   Raymond and Kasey - Amazing!  Lynda Smith - beautiful, and a voice like an angel. Not to mention Ms. Betsy's song last night - it's my favorite one that she does!  A huge round of applause goes out to you! Uncle Jimmy we love you! I could go on and
on - everyone on stage was sensational, as always.  Anyone missing these incredible performances, is definitely missing a rare and special gift...

(August 21, 2011, after Lynda Smith's Show)

Fantastic show - Lynda Smith is a phenomenal entertainer.  As usual she hit it out of the park!  The show was full of energy from start to finish   we had a great time.  Watch out Lynda and Drew   there are two up and coming  NEW STARS  on the horizon, your two precious sons, Andrew & Adam.  The house band, Shades of County was smoking hot last night too!  How about that guitar player, Ralph Motley, harmonic player, Steve Motley and gorgeous, Tracy Hill   simply  AWESOME !  The entire cast will have you clapping, singing along, and moving in no time.  We ve been going to Donk s for 15 years and have a ball each time - we rarely miss a show.  Highly recommend it if you are ever in the area; or if you are looking for fun and wholesome entertainment for the entire family.  I promise you will walk away just amazed by all the extraordinary talent!  May God continue to bless the entire cast of the Lil  Ole Opry.  All the best, Charlotte and Skip Mingee

(August 21, 2011, after Lynda Smith's Show)

Wow!!! Just when you think the 'parents' are amazing along come the kids!!! The little girl who sang (sorry, but I cannot remember her name) was adorable and ever so talented. Then the little boys came out and they stole the show as well. Jim's little boy sang right along with his mom and dad and Lynda's sons are two to watch!! Especially the younger one --- didn't want to get off the stage and came back on. Then the beautiful young ballet dancer. I know we will be seeing all of them in the future - and not just on Donk's stage!!! Also, it was so interesting to see and find out about Lynda' husband. A 'star' in his own rite. Thank you, Lynda, for singing December. Even better than Taylor!!! We are true fans.

(August 8, 2011, after the Mullins Sisters' show)

Last night's show was FANTASTIC!!!!  There was so much energy beginning to end.  I would love to have some of those genes.  I've never seen so much talent at one time.  The first half was excellent, as always.  Your song was sultry, which suits you best.  Loved those Meeks kids.  They need to try out for American Idol.  I think Raymond, especially, has a real future with song writing.  I sure hope he makes it so that I can say I knew him when he first started out!!!!
The Mulllins family exudes talent.  The "kids" are just as talented as their Moms.  I was astounded at Betty's voice.  I don't think that we will ever miss one of their shows again (this was our first).  We can hardly wait for the show in 2 weeks with our friends from Cape Cod.  We found out last night that tickets can be purchased at Coffman's.  If we decide to do that, will ya'll still get the same $ take?
Now, a request....Alan Jackson is my all time favorite country singer.  Could someone do something of his?  Maybe on of his more romantic songs....i.e." Remember When", but anything by him is a fav......
Again.....coudos to the entire cast for an exceptional show and especially to The Mullins Sisters and family.  The couple seated beside us were there for the first time (she had won the tickets on the radio in Gloucester).  I think they are now repeaters.....Sorry we didn't get to speak last night.  We saw you but you just didn't get close enough.  Thanks for reserving our tickets.  Hope to see you on Thursday....Luv, Sharon

(July 24, 2011, after the Beach/Jimmy Buffett Tribute) Just a note to tell you what a WONDERFUL time we had last night at Donks! I didn't stop singing along or smiling the entire evening. The talent is incredible and the energy and joy they all brought to the show was such a gift. We will definitely become regulars. Thanks so much for finally getting my family and I there.

Best,

Deb

Donk's,
We were at the show Saturday night and were "blown away" by Richard Smith's show--as a part-time praise-team (and other venues) drummer myself, I marvel at his speed and dexterity during his solo performance.  I also want to commend you on the patriotic first half!  As a retired USAF member (since 1979) and former gov't contractor, I was especially moved by the tribute and (perfect) salute by Jim Krepka--I too, continue to serve in our community as a Volunteer EMT in our local F&R Co.!  True American patriots couldn't help but be totally proud of your cast and their contributions which were all truly "applicable"!  Thanks for a very uplifting evening!
Charlie Bocook, Maj. USAF (Ret.)

(After 25 June 11, Kasey & Raymond Meeks show)

Last night's show was another spectacular show....terrific first half....Raymond and Kasey were incredible.....and Matt Thomas has to be one of the best young guitarists in the world. I had seen him twice (in the Talent Search) play acoustic guitar, but this was the first time. as far as I know, that he has played electric guitar at Donks.....he is amazing....watching and listening to him play is sensational entertainment.
By surprise and coincidence, I sat down beside a couple from Boones Mill, VA. It turns out that I knew them from 15 years ago when they had a sailboat berthed next to ours at Smith Mountain Lake. They now have a sailboat at Stingray Point in Deltaville. They had been to Donks "a few years ago", but were completely amazed at the talent now and loved the air conditioning. They love Steve's music and will definitely be back for his show....probably other shows too after last night.
Lynda, thank you for doing Daddy's Eyes, Cowboy Sweetheart and a Judd's song with Deana....still waiting for a Judd's Tribute Show and a redo of Total Eclipse with Christie.
Betsy.....loved Hit the Road, Jack....I'm a big fan of Ray Charles music.
Missed seeing and hearing Christie, the Kepkas, Michelle, and Lauren last night.
Looking forward to Richard's show.
Thank you for all the hard work required for these great productions.
Sincerely,
Richard

(After 18 June 11, Elvis Show...Theresa, you are more than Welcome! Your Mom made my night! Jim)

Each time that I attend a performance at Donk's Theater I plan to send a comment and then --- life goes on and I simply forget. Not this time!!! How very lucky we are to have such a fabulous group of talented performers who are so totally 'down to earth' and care so much about their audience. We took my mom to celebrate her 89th birthday - Elvis night - and she got to dance with Elvis. Thank you Jim Kepka for giving her the most wonderful birthday! She has not stopped talking about you and telling everyone about the night that she danced on air.  She wears her "Elvis scarf" regularly! I love taking friends there for the first time and watching their faces as they are totally 'blown away' by the talent!! They can't believe the shows. A few shows ago Linda Smith sang December (recorded by Taylor Swift) and I was simply amazed by the performance - but then she never ceases to amaze me!! Beautiful, talented and a cheerleader for all of the other performers. The word 'team' most c  ertainly comes to mind when I think of your shows - such support for one another and such a closeness. I wish I could sing!!! We will be there next week for the Meeks show (and every chance that we get to attend) and know the theater will be packed. If you haven't been to Donk's you are in for a night to remember. Keep blowing us away and I will keep bringing in new folks just to watch their jaws drop!! How lucky we are to have you here in our little 'neck of the woods'!!!!

Theresa Anderson

(After May 14th 2011 Show, Joell & Jim Kepka)

I was thoroughly impressed with your show!  Loved the intro and the songs were well-chosen!  BOTH of your voices were true and clear...as a matter of fact, it was the best I've ever heard you sing!  GREAT JOB!!

Thanks for all you do for Donk's and our audiences!!!

Lynda

May 14 th was the first visit for Carol and I at Donks. We will be back for more shows this year. We had a blast and the talent was great. I played in a band years ago and I thought the House band was excellent. Thanks for a great night of fun and music. We live in Croaker Va. The drive was long but well worth it.

Thanks,
Bob & Carol

Betsy, thank you for reserving our tickets, we had a blast.  My husband likes hard rock and he really enjoyed the talent.  We stay at Bethpage in Urbanna and we went back and told anyone that would listen about Donk's and the talented people who performed and how much we liked it.  Thank you again.

(This was a wonderful submission after the 'Stars of Tomorrow' Show on 11 June 2011) Thank you Morgan!!!

“Lil’ Ole Opry” – A Family (Life) Reunion of Sorts

At Donk’s Theatre’s “Lil’ Ole Opry” Saturday night in Mathews, it was “Stars of Tomorrow” night – the Stars were bright and ran the gamut from cute to WOW!  So much of the “something’s missing in our world today”
message abounds.  Something really important wasn’t missing that night as I sat with a good, large crowd of folks from six or eight states and one foreign country – to witness a human drama.

I think I happened in on a “Family Reunion” that spoke of what life is all about.  What really matters is a baton of values and traditions that many Americans have lost and don’t really know how to pass on to the next generation.  On this old, historic stage where many of the greats of country music have stood, three generations, as best I could count, unabashedly loved and appreciated each other and captured the transmission of a culture.  This was real, more than a stage, a group of people paid more than lip service to what they value.  It wasn’t broadcast on radio or television (though I believe it is far more valuable than most of what is televised) – but a transmission of greater importance was happening.  What they do and who they are was being handed to the next succeeding generation.

A sense of lasting spirit and soul was there.  It was fitting that Uncle Jimmy, the emcee, and his wife Carolyn had a 45th anniversary the next day.   Kids of the kids in the family of performers, ages 3 or 4 to 21, and everyone in between were there.  The patriarchs and matriarchs, their children (who are no longer children) and their children (who are still
children) were on stage and behind the scenes making this event possible. Few places exist where you can clearly see this important element of family, society, culture and values passed on.

The next generation stood up and sang and played with all their hearts -- were hugged, patted, and loved.  Family pride!  The usual bass player and the drummer stepped aside and the “kids” did themselves proud taking over and grabbing all the microphones.  Some were so cute, the crowd burst into cheers and applause.  “Little Miss Brenda Lee” recorded the iconic “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” at age thirteen (though it was said she was nine) and, yes, fifty-three years later, another rising star belted out songs no less wonderful and full of potential but at a real age nine.  Cute and WOW!

National and family pride may be hard to grab hold of these days – they get distorted and they are too often served as “spoiled imitations.”  But, yes, Virginia, they still do exist – and a heaping serving was put on the table Saturday night in this living, legendary place.  I left smiling, touched, moved, singing and grateful – having experienced (even as an observer) something of lasting significance, the soul and spirituality of this event.  On full display here was a vanishing way of life -- in stark contrast to all the things that seem to so deeply divide us.  We are not divided, we only let forces fool us into believing we are -- let’s stop it here – we are family and we are one!  We all have our place, our gifts, and our part of the puzzle to give.

Donk’s “Stars of Tomorrow” reminds us all of so much that is good and lasting and what being a human being on this planet at this moment is all about.  Where ever we are, who ever we are – we each have our unique transmission to make.  Thanks for the reminder and for sharing your Family Reunion.

After Christy Snyders Show (30 Apr 11)

All of this year's shows (2011) have been excellent, but tonight's show was incredible and amazing.....Christy raised the bar......first half was one of the best in the 4 1/2 years I have been attending Donks shows.
The duet (Total Eclipse of the Heart) with Lynda may be the very best live musical performance I've ever seen in my life, anywhere. The audience was so impressed that it didn't know how to react as a group....everyone just sat with chill bumps and said "wow". It was on the edge of a standing ovation but lacked an initiator.
I hope Christy and Lynda will consider performing this song again this season.
Congratulations and thank you.

Patti and I keep saying that it couldn’t be better than the last show, but each time we are truly amazed at the talent and last Saturday was no different.  We had brought our neighbors, Jim and Carol Evans, and the show was all we could talk about on the way home.  The harmony of the sisters was wonderful, especially on Bugle Boy.

We have now added a couple of more people to the Donk’s Experience!

Patti and I look forward to every other Saturday evening and, of course, we’ll be there for Lynda’s show.  We’ve our “Wine Guild” get together this Friday and will be talking up the show.

Regards,

Paul Hollander

Came down last night on the big bus, and can not say enough about how much we enjoyed the show and The Mullins family. A fan forever!

We had a wonderful time.  We just can't get over the great talented people there.  That's all we talked about all the way home.  The 'wine guild' meets the 2nd Friday of each month at Bon Vivant Market in Smithfield.  We will be talking it up and trying to get another group together for the 7th!

Patti and I have just about become addicted to Saturday nights at Donk's!  Are there season tickets?  (I say with a big smile.)

Thanks and our Thanks to the entire cast for a wonderful evening.

We had such a great time.  The talent you have out there is incredible...you were pretty awesome yourself.  When Tracy sang the Captain and the Kid I got tears in my eyes, it was so touching to me.  We definitely will be out to see you all again.

Several of us journeyed from Williamsburg to support a young lady in our church tryout in the talent show. I havn't been to Donks in some years, but the talent of your crew is still top-caliber! The singing keeps getting better and better. Thanks so much for what you do.

William Shockley, Williamsburg

It was the greatest show and what talent and thought went in to it.  I'm the member with Abingdon Ruritan Club.  We had about 6 members and spouses with us last nite.  As soon as we can get some more members we will be back.  Keep up the good work.  We all will be bragging about it..  LOVED LOVED ALL THE ELVIS'

We were at the show with a friend from Richmond and the entire cast did a WONDERFUL show!  We loved it and can't believe how much talent you folks have.  The Shades of Country were at their typical best and the singers just wowed us.  We love the music and Elvis and this was a great night of entertainment.  We  really don't want to single anyone out so I won't mention names but we had a great time.

Best to you and all of the gang at Donk's and Thanks,

Great Elvis show - Elvis costumes were a bonus to the fantastic music.  Elvista made sure the ladies were represented in costume and spirit.  Looking forward to next show.

Betsy,

The Tracy Hill show was great.....both halves.....great to see Raymond back!!!
See you on the 28th.

My wife and I just returned from the Halloween show tonight and I had to send you this message right away to tell you that we thought it was OUTSTANDING!
We have been to most of the shows this year and they have all been great but tonight was right up there as one of the best.  The Shades of Country are one of the most talented bands we've heard and we love live music.  They are all so versatile and talented it's amazing how well they play both individually and as a group, not to mention how well they musically support the new talent competitors.  Each member does their part to make the show as great as it is and tonight was no exception.
And as for you regular singers/performers, tonight everyone was on.  You all have so much talent and have so much fun performing it is just a blast to sit back and enjoy your shows.  I will not name individual performers as it would take too long but suffice it to say that EVERYONE we heard on tonight's show was excellent and in most cases funny (I love humor as well).  The Halloween acts and costumes made tonight even more special.
Further, the talent tonight was exceptionally good.  My wife and I both were in awe at the talent Donk's attracts and glad that we did not have to be judges.  The competitors tonight were a real pleasant surprise and we enjoyed them a lot.
We truly appreciate the dedication and efforts that you ALL put into the shows.  I've spent a lot more for entertainment (musical and otherwise) that has not been of as high a quality as what we see and enjoy at Donk's.  A special thanks to Deena Mullins who I met at Bay FM about a year ago.   We were talking about country music and she reminded me about Donk's (we had moved back to the area and had not been for a long time).  That got us going to the shows and we've brought other family and friends who have enjoyed Donk's as well.  We also appreciate your e-mails.  Say hello to your "Man in Black"----I told my wife before the show the he would be doing Marie LeVeau (you were a good bad witch).  The flip side of that 45 is the Mermaid Song by Bobby Bare which is worth hearing as well.

BEST WISHES AND OUR THANKS TO ALL AT DONK'S

TERRIFIC SHOW

Please give my congratulations to Steve for a terrific show tonight. It was one of the best ever. Both halves were really good......great entertainment. Looking forward to Michelle's show in two weeks....tonight, her Patsy Cline song and her gospel jubilee-type song were a great ending to the first half.

Richard

Jack and I have not missed a show this season.  We have enjoyed every one of them.  The talent each of you possess is amazing and the comradeship you exhibit for each other is heart warming.

As a YOUNG adult I sang solos at church and in all my school plays.  On one of my visits back to my girlhood home I had someone ask me if I had ever entertained the idea of pursuing a music career.  My answer was no because I realized it was too tough a market to get into.   (Much more difficult back then than it  is today.)  We as patrons of Donks and are blessed to have all of you.  Please pass on to your fellow stage mates that I also look at it as all of you being blessed to have an outlet for your talents. A place that promotes such a healthy, clean environment.

Again thank you AND ALL your fellow Donk's stage mates.  Not only for your talent but for all the work you put into your shows and in keeping the theatre clean, open and available for us. PLEASE ALL OF YOU, KEEP IT GOING.

Betsy - What a GREAT show Saturday night!!!!  Thanks for the surprise dedication!!!!  We got a kick out of it as did our friends.  They said, "Wow, you really do know the stars!" :)  Everybody just loved the show and agreed that you and Steve are fantastic together. Plus we were impressed by your pretty harmonizing on a lot of the numbers.  We are definitely planning on coming to Steve's show, which I think y'all announced was in October.  Anyway, we love Donk's!!!!!!!!!!

Lee & Jim Jackson

Saturday night (8/8/09) was wonderful... the Mullins Sisters are one of our very favorite groups. Thanks for doing "Nights in a Northern Town" for me. Excellent job!!!

Yea, Clintwood! I'm from Haysi, ha!

Hey! It was my first time going to Donks, and i thought that the entertainment was amazing, something you don't see in Welcome,Maryland! I just wanted to ask if the Mullen sisters had a web site , and also if you could tell me the names and ages of the kids who performed on August 8th , they were very good. (:

Sincerely your new fan,

Rosie Wood.

The July 25th Jimmy Buffett Tribute Concert was my first visit to Donk's Theater. Thank you for a wonderful evening of entertainment! It was the most fun I've had in ages. My only regret is that it took me so long to visit. I will be back!

Hello Betsy, (submitted online 4 May 09)

We came to the show with our neighbors and my sister and brother-in-law, also from Kilmarnock. What a great show, we truly enjoyed our evening.  My sister had never been to Donk's and she was totally impressed with the high quality of the show.  We all felt that as impressive as the talent was, the "Donk's family feeling" was a very important part of the entertainment.  We've all seen many entertainers over the years but rarely do you see such a talented group that works together so well and highlights others instead of themselves.  Any one of you could put on an evening show but the Shades of Country, "back-up singers" and other entertainers support each other so well and provided a great evening.  Jeff was great in the second half which was a bit of a surprise as he is usually so laid back in the band.
Rest assured, we'll be back for another show, hopefully in a couple of weeks if nothing comes up.  Also, thanks to the birthday lady "Mother Smith" for the free popcorn on the way out.

Best,
John & Eileen

Thank you and all the Donks performers for a wonderful Oldies Show.
Every performance was great....and many were "HOLY COW....WOW" great.
I really enjoyed the many  "pleasant surprises" like Steve's rendition
of Billy Swan's I Can Help, one of my all-time favorites.
The talent of all of the Donks performers is extraordinary.
I was glad to see the much-deserved full house.
Looking forward to the next show.

Great Show!  Thanks for your help w/tickets!  We all enjoyed it!  Next
time, there will be even more of us!

Dear Betsy,

Kudos to you and the Donk's family for a beautiful show Saturday night.

The richness you all bring to the community extends beyond your incredible talents. Caring and dedication for family and community, the patriotism and expressions of gratitude for our military, and your devotion to God and to religious tenets makes going to Donk's a unique experience.

We have family members from northern Virginia (who've been living in California for the last forty years!) who make every effort to be here the weekends of the Donk's shows. They (as well as we!) marvel at the quality of the shows and the fact that the shows occur every two weeks! The quality of the shows must demand tremendous planning and practice from all the performers.

I couldn't believe my good fortune to win the 50-50 two weeks in a row. Has that ever happened before? When you announced at the start, that the house half would go to Hands Across Mathews, I thought that should I be so fortunate to win, I'd do the same. When we bought our tickets, I told my family that if I won, there'd be a surprise in it. If you believe in Divine intervention, I think there was a guiding force when the winning ticket was pulled. Someone above heard my silent promise.

Betsy, thank-you for all that you and the others give to us in this community; best wishes for a beautiful holiday and we're anxiously awaiting the next Donk's season.

Take care,
Jo Ann Mulvany

Lynda,

I couldn't figure out how to leave a comment at the comments page, so I'm going this route:

What a delightful Christmas show last night! It was my first time at the Donks theater, but it won't be my last.

I've posted some notes and some photos which I took during the show - at my personal web site. I will likely add more photos within the next few days.

What a terrific show on 5 July 2008. As a Mother, I was so proud of
Jim. As a customer I felt completely entertained. I loved it! I'm
sure the Donk's Theater audience got much more than they bargained for.
Jim was always the most bashful of my children; times have changed! I
can't wait to see what is next!

We also had first timers, Ellie
and Butch with us from Virginia Beach. They were extremely impressed
with the talent at Donk's and said they will definitely be back.

Carolyn Kepka (Mason James' Proud Nana) Joell Kepka's proud
mother in law!! (If you didn't get the chills on God Bless America,
something is wrong, what a powerful voice she has)

Lynda and Betsy,

You folks continue to amaze me. The show last Saturday was great. Jim did a great job....many really good songs done really well...lots of great up-tempo, rocking stuff. I watched Nashville Star last night and I think all of the Donks musicians are better than the remaining contestants.
See you in two weeks.

Best regards,

Richard

Betsy,

Thanks to you and all the Donks regulars for a super first half last night.
I loved hearing the Bass Boat song again.....great job.... and please give my congratulations to Steve for a great job on his two super songs......his second was very touching and you could tell it was sung "from the heart".
I had wife Donna, my brother John from Hampton, and his friend Carol with me.
All of us thought both the first half and Lynda's half were incredible.
Thanks to you and everyone for all the hard work to prepare.
See you next show.
Best wishes for a great week.

Best regards,

Richard Browder

What a fantastic and wonderful show.
I had sky-high expectations...and you all far exceeded them.
Everyone....the p
erformers and the audience....had great fun.
For my preferences, the song selection was the stuff I love....could hardly have been better.
All of the performances were superb.
There was only one thing wrong.....while it was a large crowd, this show deserved a sold-out house.
Thank you again for another wonderful evening......and thanks to everyone involved for all the hard work required to prepare for this amazing show.
Can't wait for the next show.

Very best regards,

Richard

We enjoyed the show. What great talent you had. Of course I love the band.
Kathy Schultz

I just wanted to say how much Bob & I enjoyed the show the other evening! From the opening act, right through to the big finish....it was a Gift! (And I really need to remember to bring tissues to these shows...by the end of the show, I must have looked like Tammy Faye Baker!) Thank you and all the DONK’S family for what you’ve given to “us”....that is, the community! You folks have managed to find a way to make the entire audience feel as though we’re a part of that family. It’s more than just a “warm & fuzzy” feel..it’s a feeling that we’re supposed to be there...we’re expected to be there...and I’ll tell you, that it would be hard be anywhere else this time next year, because we know we’re supposed to be at DONK’S! Once again, Betsy, thank you for all that you and all the folks, on stage and behind the scenes, do to create these amazing shows, week, after week, after week! We love it! Please don’t stop! I know that Santa has lots of special surprises planned for all y’all, and that’s nothing compared to the Rewards that are in store later! Please have a wonderful Christmas, and extend my love and admiration to everyone there at DONK’s. I’ll miss you folks.

Merry Christmas!

Love, Linda

The small world of the Middle Peninsula is a very enjoyable place, and Uncle Jimmy's and Betsy's family and friends make living there extra special. Sometimes I wish more of our city brethren could experience the wholesome fun that takes place at that quaint and simple venue. Donk's is a communion that softens hearts, lifts spirits, and sparks friendly handshakes.

My husband and I drove from Mechanicsville, VA (1-1/2 hrs.) just to see Raymond and Kasey perform, and it was definitely worth the trip! We thoroughly enjoyed the show. We felt so sorry for Kasey and hope she is feeling better. She showed what a true performer is. We also enjoyed her brother Raymond and how much he kept encouraging her. You can tell how close those two are. We were just amazed at the talent of these two "children". We hope you will feature them again.

Thank you for a wonderful concert!

If Raymond and Kasey have e-mail, please send it, We have really
liked them since we first saw them - It's hard to believe their ages
- They are great! Kasey was a real trooper and we hope she wasn't
too upset because of voice problems-
if everyone could be that good at any time they would be grateful -
It's hard to believe that they are so good.

Hope you have a great week, tell Steve "hello" - he is another of our "favorites"

We really enjoy your shows and appreciate the hard work that goes
into each show.

Hi Betsy,

It was so good to see and hear all of you again. I cried my eyeballs out as it felt like coming home. Even though you have a lot of new voices, there's still the old, comfortable family feeling. Very professional show. Jimmy was right. The Meeks were phenomenal!

Thanks,
Rona

I mentioned this morning in the 6am hour we were going to give away tickets to Donk's today and they wouldn't leave me alone until I did. "Have you given away Donks yet?.......What time is the DOnk's giveaway....etc." Phone rings off the hook . . .

THANKS

SALUTE !!! Wow, what a show. A great time was had by all that attended. I must admit that I was a little skeptical about the "Hee Haw " format. But now I am a believer. We sure hope that you all will make it a regular annual show just like the " Oldies " We felt as though we were back in the 60's and 70' s watching on TV. Please give everyone a great big hug from all of us out in the audience.

Eddie Johnson

Each show that we attend seems better than the ones before. Saturday
was GREAT again. Just to let you know that we recognize and
appreciate all the work that you put into these shows. We really
enjoy them.

GREAT SHOW LAUREN

Wow, what a show. It was great on both ends. The first half was great, but Lauren's half was spectacular. Such a variety of music! The way that she incorporates both her family and the rest of the cast in her music is outstanding. If there is anyone out there that sings Karen Carpenter's music any better, I sure would like to hear them. Cu do's to all. Anyone that missed this show, missed one of the best shows of this year! Please keep up all the great work.

Hey Betsy!

This is a huge blast from the past...It's Meghan Shanley. You guys were on my mind lately and I wanted to check out the website and see what was new with the theatre, so I just wanted to drop you a line to say hello and please send my best to everyone there.

I am still in Nashville working on music. I have a few shows coming up, I have gotten hooked in with Ft. Campbell Army base and have performed for them a couple times. And I also have a local place where I do a 3 hour band gig every month or so. I'll be headed back to Roanoke to perform at the pageant in June, so I'm looking forward to that. Trying to record some new songs this year , but for now I have a cd for sale from my website www.meghanshanley.com, and I have a myspace page too.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and let you all know that I was thinking of you. Hope all is well, and please do pass along my best to everyone there!

Love,
Meghan
(your long lost friend :)

THANKS for letting me give tickets away.....the number of phone calls prove that people really want them.

“My wife and I have been to Donk’s two times now. Both have been experiences to remember.

The second one was one of the talent searches. I competed and found it to be a truly exhilarating

Experience!! Although I did not win I will be back to compete again. We have found a HOME at Donk’s!!!”

Betsy, we thoroughly enjoyed the show. It was a very pleasant surprise to be recognized for our anniversary and have the audience sing to us—we were totally not expecting it! Having that happen made our anniversary extra special. Thanks you so much for arranging it. You are the greatest, as always.

Phil and I both said that the performers last night are better than most who are known throughout the country and have recordings in the top 10. We haven’t seen such talent in a long time. I picked up the schedule and we will be coming again and we want to definitely come next time you have an “oldies” show.

I gotta tell ya’…the show’s just keep getting’ better and better…(ok…so we’ve only been to 2 so far, but we are hooked…and we will be back!) The talent is amazing, ( still talking about Steve Motley’s “Jerry Reed”, and Lynda & Uncle Jimmy’s “Unforgettable”…WOW!)

“The Shades of Country” are absolutely amazing! Not to mention “Jerry Lee Lewis”, “Elvis”, and hey!...”Carley Simon” never looked so good! You know, Betsy…what you say is true, you can tell that you folks enjoy what you’re doin’…but mostly what we see is so much love! Please just keep on doin’ all that you’re doin’! Cause we’re lovin’ it!

Linda

104.9 WIGO Country!

Good Mornin’ Ms. Betsy!

You beat me to the punch! I had every intention of coming in this morning and E-Mailing you to tell you what a super time we had on Saturday! Bob and I were so impressed by the “Regular Cast” talent! Wow! And that’s not even talkin’ about the band! “The Shades of Country” Band were amazing! And then there was Uncle Jimmy….what can I say?!....FUN all rolled up in CUTIE! We giggled, and laughed, and sang and I even cried from time to time! (OK, I’m a Softie). All this excitement and all before the Competition started! You expressed it so eloquently when you said that the contestants would be treated like family in a loving atmosphere and not criticized, so as to not break their spirit! And so it was! Congratulations on a beautiful job of pulling all this together…and on a bi-weekly basis, too! We had a great time, will definitely be back

Thanks Betsy, Already have. The web site looks great. The upgrade to the sound system is really great. We, all of us out in the audience, can now hear both Steve and Phil when they are playing Before, we couldn't hear the backup like the mandolin, harmonica and Phil's sax. Jeff's young son was fantastic. We need to hear more of him in the future
